The "Adopt A Pet" Program

Each month, your generous donations support the publishing costs of a full page Animal Adoption page which appears on the last Saturday of the month in the Desert Sun. These ads have been extremely successful in increasing the adoption rate from our local shelters, and connecting wonderful dogs and cats with smart and compassionate owners.

How It Works:

Each month, local shelters provide us with photos and descriptions of adoptable dogs and cats. Frequently the animals may be facing imminent euthanasia. Any shelter in the Coachella valley area may contribute photos.  Lori and the staff at the Desert Sun create a layout and include any special educational messages. For example, in the summer we remind everyone never to leave animals unattended in the car, even for a short period of time.

Readers of the Sun then contact the shelters directly, and visit the shelters to meet the pictured animals and many other adoptable animals. Then animals get adopted by families and everyone is happy!"

Over the years we have found that interested families get the most accurate and timely information about adoptable animals by contacting the shelters directly, so please do not contact Desert Paws about adopting specific animals.
